Anna Visits the Dentist

Of course, she had to be goofy.

Waiting for the dentist.

Anna had her very first visit to the dentist last week and she did great!

Getting her teeth checked out.
Last year, I grabbed a bunch of different books from one of my boxes to see what she would like.  One of the books that she latched onto and loved was called First Experiences: A Visit to the Dentist.  It shows a little boy visiting the dentist for the first time.  He takes care of his teeth, sits in the waiting room, rides the 'magic' chair, and opens his mouth WIDE for the dentist to count and brush his teeth.  Anna asks for us to read it to her for bedtime consistently.

Her prizes for being good
I think because of that book, she likes to have her teeth brushed and flossed.  We always go first and then let her do it herself for a couple minutes.  So, when I told her that she was going to go to the dentist with mommy and daddy, she was ecstatic!

Here are some pictures of her there.  The hygienist was great and showed her all the tools and let her press the buttons to make water and air come out.  She soaked up all of the attention.  I was surprised that she let them brush her teeth with the electric brush and paint on the fluoride varnish.

House Updating

The new house

Most of August and the beginning of September were taken up with house preparations, stresses, and moving.

As soon as we got home at the end of July, we started packing and putting stuff in the garage.  Our walk-through date was originally supposed to be in September but was moved up twice, once to Aug 30 and again to Aug 23.  We were told that we could close as early as that day if our lender was ready.

These pictures are from the day of the walk-through.  There were a couple of things missing (mainly some kitchen and bathroom lights) and minor repairs to be done.  But, everything seemed great.  We got a call that evening telling us that our appraisal had come in under cost. Panic!

Once we got that figured out, 4 days after the walk-through, the waiting game started.  We had a renter scheduled to move into our old house on Sept 1.  That meant we needed to be out of the house Aug 30 so the cleaning ladies and carpet cleaner could come in and get everything ready for him.  We waited and waited.  Finally, on Aug 30 we got the word that we would not be closing until the following Tuesday at the earliest.  Panic!

That was resolved by calling the renter and offering him money off his first month's rent for coming in on Thursday, the 6th.  Again we waited.  No closing on Tuesday.  We knew we had to be out of the house Wednesday for everything to be ready for the renter no matter what.  We did a big push on Tuesday and got just about everything but the big furniture into the garage.  Wed morning, a couple of guys from the ward came and helped bring the big furniture out to the garage.  We picked up the truck at noon and started loading.  Luckily, we had a lot of help from the ward and ward kids, even during the day.  We got the truck almost completely packed by 5pm.  At 6, a bunch of other people came, finished loading, and unpacked everything into the new house's garage.  We couldn't get the key to the house until we closed, but we did have the code to the garage.

The cleaning ladies and the carpet cleaners came Wednesday afternoon amid all the packing.  Because of the wet carpets, Steve and I slept on our mattress in the kitchen.

We finally closed the next day, Thursday, at 4pm down in Orem.  Even that almost didn't happen!  We weren't funded until the following Monday.  I told Steve that I do not want to move for a very, very, very long time.  We were able to pick up the keys to the house that night and had Steve's brother, Ken, and some neighbors come help us move everything from the garage into the house.  All of the boxes made it in by Saturday.

Since then, we've been slowly unpacking.  First up were the bedrooms and the kitchen.  Now we've got the most necessary rooms ready.  The baby's room, my craft room, the library, and the storage room are all a mess.  Those are going to take a little longer before we get to them.  Even so, we have a lot of furniture to get before we can use a few of the rooms.

Luckily, Anna loves her new 'big-girl room' and is adjusting well to all the differences.  The only thing she misses are the friends that lived on our old street and she can still see them at church and such.  I'll try to get some pictures of rooms with stuff in them, but everything's such a mess, it might be a while. (Keep scrolling down, there are a couple more pictures.)

The Rest of July

Here's Anna showing Pooh-Bear some of her typical love.
I've been really behind on posting, so I am just going to post a bunch of pictures with some explanations of what's been going on.
Steve and I went on a date to Hollywood Connection in West Valley.   We played mini-golf (I got a hole in 1), went on the bumper cars twice, and played arcade games.  We would have gone roller skating, but I forgot to wear socks...oops!

In mid-July, the Bailey side of my dad's family got together for their first reunion at Wheeler Farm.  I didn't get too many pictures except these of Anna.  She loved looking at all the animals and sitting on the tractor.

The last two weeks of July were spent on our first major road-trip as a family.  We drove from Utah to Idaho to Washington back to Idaho to Utah.  We were able to stay with Emily and Tony Bradshaw and cousins on the way up, all of the Bailey cousins in Washington, and John and Tiff Wheeler and cousins on the way back.  Anna was a little sad when we got home and she wasn't able to play with cousins every day any more.

I don't have a lot more that happened in July, so I'll leave you with a couple of pictures of Anna being Anna.

To the left, Anna put on every bib in the house.
To the right, really enjoying FHE dessert.
