Aquarium Visit

Last Friday, Anna & I went to the aquarium along with her friend, Joseph, and his mom.  We'd been planning on doing this since last fall, but didn't get around to it until now.

We all drove together.  Anna really liked having another kid in the backseat to talk with.  At the aquarium, she headed straight for the 'fishies!'.  She looked at each exhibit a little, but didn't seem too interested in most of them.  She was most fascinated by the tropical fish tank, the sleeping otters, and the Goliath Bird-eating Spider!  She didn't like the penguins.  It's so interesting to see what she likes and doesn't like.  I'm learning so much about her personality.

Visitors

We had some visitors this past weekend.  Steve's sister, Emily, came along with her husband, Tony, and three kids: Lia, Micah, & Adam.  It was fun seeing them, especially since the last time we saw them was when Anna was a couple of weeks old.  Unfortunately, they were coming for Tony's grandmother's funeral.

In spite of that, we had a great time.  Anna loved playing with her cousins.  She and Lia definitely hit it off.  They goofed off, shared ice cream, and giggled like crazy!  Steve and I spent time talking and playing games with Emily and Tony.  On Monday, Ken & Kate and their kids came for dinner and an FHE on being a good family member- fun!

We're so glad the Bradshaw's were able to stay with us this weekend.

Third Design Meeting

Well, we had our third meeting, albeit a day later than planned.  When I met Steve there, I was loaded down with papers and the laptop.  I'd made a spreadsheet the day before to keep track of how much things were costing and what decisions we'd made.  I was hoping that Brittany would have all the prices for the things we'd asked for.  She did have most of the things, but not any of the big ticket items like finishing the basement room of the price of the hardwood flooring.  I want to make sure those big items are taken care of before deciding some of the other 'nice' things.

We did make some good decisions, though.  We chose the colors for the outside of the house: tan and Champagne; the roof: slate (but it's brown); the kind of rock; the color of the gutter: a very dark brown; and the color of the garage door: to match the Champagne color.  It's amazing how many different choices and options there are out there!  The hardest choice was the rock.  So many of the stones had pink undertones that really showed up when placed next to the colors we chose.  I personally don't want a pink house.  We finally found some stone that had a mixture of brown, goldish, and red rock.  I think it will work out really nice.

The other decision we made had to do with the finishes in the kitchen and master bathroom.  We decided to go with the quartz countertops instead of granite.  They're easier to clean because you don't have to seal them every year.  Steve also likes the regularity of the quartz look.  We also changed the tile in the main bathroom to a little darker tile and that meant we had to choose a different counter.  I think we're going to go with the quartz there as well.  Luckily the ones we liked were the cheaper kinds, but they are all still expensive!

We should get an email today with all the prices and Steve and I can sit down and make some final decisions...hopefully!
